Why I bake

As I tie my apron and preheat the oven, I am transported back to a cherished time in my life, into a kitchen filled with the laughter and wisdom of four generations. Great-Grandmother Gussie, a beacon of grace, art (she was also a talented painter), along with her culinary skill, always greeted guests with spearmints by the door and around the holiday season, a silver tray of freshly baked cookies. She was the cornerstone of where our cookie traditions started. Her kitchen wasn't just a place of baking; it was where we learned the joy of giving and the value of community.
The reason I dedicate myself to baking goes beyond the art itself. It's in the smiles, the moments of shared delight when someone receives our cookie boxes. It's about recreating the warmth and joy that Gussie spread in her community, a tradition now lovingly carried on by our family through four generations.
Each December, memories flood back of the times I spent with Gussie, my mother, and grandmother. Today, alongside my mother, we continue this tradition, our family history enriching every batch of cookies we bake.
Each year, just as Gussie experimented and honed in on her recipes, I too, test and add one new cookie (my own recipe) to the lineup. This year I'm excited to introduce a special addition to our beloved assortment – a hazelnut Italian chocolate ganache. It reflects our family's innovative spirit and my personal passion for creating something extraordinary. Our goal is always to craft unique, memorable experiences with our cookies. I aim to bring back the nostalgic time, of which my great grandmother often spoke; luxury cookie boxes from city bakeries.
Christmas Eve is a time of magic and giving for us. Following in Gussie's footsteps, my husband and I journey around the seacoast, gifting our handcrafted cookie boxes to hospitals, local businesses and homes, spreading holiday cheer and keeping the spirit of Gussie's generosity alive.

Dear Sweet Toothed Friends,
From the tender age of four, perched on each of my great-grandmother's, grandmother's and mother's kitchen counters, I embarked on my culinary adventure. In those early days, armed with a spoon and a bowl, I fancied myself a chemist in the kitchen, experimenting with ingredients (sometimes strange mixtures) as if they were magical potions. My mother, albeit somewhat begrudgingly, allowed me to indulge in these creative escapades, usually finding herself cleaning up the cheerful and gleeful poofs of flour I left behind.
To this day, after a 16-hour baking marathon, I still find myself covered in chocolate and flour – a testament to those early, formative years in those kitchens. My grandmother Judy always encouraged my playful spirit, teaching me that life's messes are just part of the joy of exploration. "A mess can always be cleaned up," she would say with a smile, even when I was covered in either mud from jumping in puddles or chocolate syrup from head to toe. My great grandmother Gussie, on the other hand, was the matriarch who instilled in us the precision and art of baking; a legacy she meticulously passed down through three generations.
The other tradition of "luxury assorted cookie boxes", started with Gussie. She passed it down two generations, until my mother absolutely passed the torch down to me. After years of my delivering boxes, and of heartwarming suggestions from those who've tasted the love and joy baked into each of my cookies, I am thrilled to announce that this year and season marks a new chapter in our family's tradition and creativity. I have created "Four Generations Cookie Boxes"!! With this, I am able to extend you an invitation to be part of a tradition that spans generations. With every box purchased, you won't just be enjoying a treat, you will be helping to spread cheer and continue a legacy of giving, made with love by four generations.
